What is a great translation?
A great translation is the result of a complex process during which the translator must decide how to best convey the source text so that the target audience will understand and appreciate it the same way the source audience does. This means the translator must understand the important characteristics of the source text and transfer them accurately and effectively into the target language. Only someone who is very competent in the subject field and in both languages, and has lived in both cultures, will achieve that.
Was ist eine hervorragende Übersetzung?
Eine hervorragende Übersetzung ist das Resultat eines komplexen Prozesses, währenddessen der Übersetzer entscheiden muss, wie er den Quelltext am besten übermittelt, damit ihn die Zielleserschaft genau so gut versteht und wertschätzt wie die ursprüngliche Leserschaft. Das bedeutet, der Übersetzer muss die wichtigen Eigenschaften des Quelltextes verstehen und sie korrekt und wirksam in die Zielsprache übertragen. Das kann nur von einem Übersetzer erzielt werden, der außergewöhnliche Kompetenz in seinen Arbeitsgebieten und in beiden Sprachen besitzt und im Kulturkreis beider Sprachen gelebt hat.
Translator versus Computer Program
Decisions made by a computer program can in no way lead to the same accurate and effective results as those made by an experienced translator. This becomes evident, even with respect to relatively simple sentences. The results can be very damaging to the client's business or his/her reputation or to other users of the translation in various fields, especially in the legal, technical, and medical field where protection, safety, and health of the persons concerned are of utmost importance. Übersetzer oder Computerprogramm
Die Entscheidungen eines Computerprogramms können auf keinen Fall zum gleichen korrekten und wirksamen Resultat wie die eines erfahrenen Übersetzers führen. Das wird sogar im Falle eines relativ einfachen Satzes sehr deutlich. Das Resultat kann sich sehr negativ auf die Geschäfte oder das Ansehen des Kunden oder auf andere Nutzer der Übersetzung, und zwar in vielen Fachbereichen, auswirken, besonders in den Bereichen Recht, Technik und Medizin, wo Schutz, Sicherheit und Gesundheit der Betroffenen von höchster Bedeutung sind.
